Marcus was one of three artists commissioned by the British Sporting Art Trust to create new monumental paintings for their museum in Newmarket. His painting was on the subject of polo, with great thanks to Cowdray Polo Club who allowed him to gather invaluable research during their Gold Cup tournament and also to the Kirtlington and Beaufort Polo Clubs. Next came a trip to India to the hills of Manipur to see the ancient game of Sagol Kangjei, a game which has been played there since 3100BC and which was the forerunner of the modern form of polo. Great thanks are also due to all those in India who provided such wonderful support including the staff at the City Palace archives in Jaipur.
